Plot Synopsis

Johnny and his live-in girlfriend Moira throw a party. Dutch Stiles and Floyd Eddy reunite at this party to form a partnership robbing warehouses, just like the old days.  Floyd was recently dumped by his girlfriend Sabine because he cheats on her.  But he still loves her.  Dutch, single father to 10 year old Maddy and several years older than Floyd, is interested in Sabine once he meets her at the party.

Dutch lies to Maddy about what he does.  He tells her he’s in real estate.  He tells this to his life-long friend El Mando, as well.  The problem is, El Mando is not only a masked wrestler and movie star, he is a fighter of crime.  Mando wants to put Dutch on the straight and narrow so he offers him a studio job as monster wrangler – tracking down monsters in order to cast them in El Mando movies.  Dutch has other plans.  He wants to rob a bank and then, once and for all, get out of the robbing business.  Maddy is 10 and it’s time he became a proper father.

Floyd introduces Dutch to Cutter Conroy.  Cutter and Floyd used to rob banks together but Floyd wanted out. Cutter plays too rough.  Still, Dutch decides to do a bank job with Cutter, Cutter’s right hand man Ned, and Cecil, an old friend of Dutch’s and a wizard at electronics, safes, bugging, etc.

Sabine meets Mando through Dutch who arranges to help her and Moira get an exclusive photo session with Mando.  At the photo shoot, a monster, who is tracking down Mando, spies Sabine and follows her home.  It attacks but Mando arrives and, after a fierce battle, finishes the monster.  Afterwards, Dutch arrives at Sabine’s to see how the photo shoot went.  She asks him out and a romance begins.

Floyd and Dutch do a warehouse job together which goes better than the first one they tried.  But Floyd is blue because of the Dutch/Sabine budding romance.  Floyd goes to Mando to see if Mando would consider hiring HIM for the monster wrangler job.  Mando says no and they have a long chat about right and wrong.  Floyd is discouraged.

Cecil bugs Pineville bank president Sammy Grimes’ office to find out when the big payroll is coming through the bank.  Sammy has his own dirty dealings going on behind the scenes at the bank.  Soon the robbery date is set and it proceeds.  Something goes wrong – Cecil is shot dead and Cutter is shot and falls into a stream.  Ned drives away in a panic and Dutch gets away narrowly with the money.  Floyd picks him up and helps him bury the money in Dutch’s back yard.  Maddy discovers her father is the bank robber, digs up the cash, and returns it to the bank.  Sammy gets his hands on the cash and tells no one it’s been returned; in this way he can better hide his own grafting activities.

Dutch goes with Mando on a monster fighting job only to watch a furious battle between Mando and a Sytharee – mutant monster from a local lake.  Dutch accepts Mando’s job as monster wrangler and goes on the hunt for a Droglinx, an ancient race of monster that no one has been able to secure.  Dutch gets lost but is aided by a spooky spirit in the woods.  He comes face to face with the Droglinx in an old train tunnel and, after some time, the chat goes well and he gets the Droglinx to agree to be in an El Mando movie.

But there are more troubles.  Dutch discovers that Maddy has returned the money to the bank.  He also discovers that Cutter is alive and wants his share of the loot.  Dutch won’t tell him his daughter returned it.  Instead, he says he lost it but Cutter doesn’t buy it.

More monsters come into the scene, Cutter begins to fume, Floyd wants Sabine back, Maddy wants to help her dad.  Others such as Detective Sorenson, movie director Earl Kenton, Johnny and Moira all get into the scene. So do a persistent pair of bat creatures.  There is kidnapping, killing, and surprise friendships that arise in the wake of all this tumult.

How does it all turn out?  Wait until this winter and go see Last Stop in a Violent Town.
